Campus Advisory: Stockton Campus fountains and Pacific response to drought conditions

Apr 17, 2017

On Friday, April 7, Gov. Jerry Brown signed an executive order which effectively lifted the drought emergency in every county except for Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Tuolumne counties. Despite the order, Gov. Brown vowed to maintain many of the restrictions on wasteful water use.

As a result of the easing of restrictions, University of the Pacific will resume use of three fountains on the Stockton Campus, located in the Quads residential area, outside the William Knox Holt Memorial Library, and in front of the DeRosa University Center.

Though these fountains were all exempt from drought restrictions because they employ water recycling systems, they have not been in use since the drought emergency was declared in 2014. University administration and Physical Plant chose to terminate their use for the duration of the drought as part of Pacific's commitment to environmental stewardship. Despite the reported end of the drought, Pacific remains committed to reducing its water consumption and minimizing water waste on each of its campuses.
