NCFDD Faculty Success Program
Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Berit Gundersen is pleased to announce that funding is available to support two faculty members in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) Faculty Success Program for spring 2018.  All program fees will be covered. To learn more about the NCFDD Faculty Success Program and the commitments, click here.

If interested in the University sponsorship, however, DO NOT register on the site! Instead, please email a letter of interest by noon on Monday, Oct. 23 to Berit Gundersen, bgundersen@pacific.edu and Marcia Hernandez, mhernandez@pacific.edu, that includes the following:

  • Why you would like to participate in this program
  • Your goals or the outcomes you hope to achieve
  • How you plan to support others at Pacific after participating in this program

The funded applicants will be asked for a report assessing the impact of their participation in the NCFDD Faculty Success Program the academic year after completion of the program.

Institutional Memberships
Pacific has institutional memberships that provide a great deal of information and faculty support: National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) and Academic Impressions (AI).

    • NCFDD has multiple "core curriculum webinars" such as "How to Align Your Time with Your Priorities" and "How to Develop a Daily Writing Practice". Pacific faculty, staff and graduate and post-doctoral students can benefit from NCFDD and join under Pacific's institutional membership.  See a full calendar of events here. You must be registered as a member of NCFDD under Pacific's institutional membership. To register for membership, click here.
    • University of the Pacific has an institutional membership with Academic Impressions that gives everyone at Pacific unlimited access to AI's live and on-demand trainings.  You can access them all in the member dashboard. Here's how to get started:
      • Navigate to the AI website
      • Login or Register (first-time users) with your @pacific.edu email
      • Use the AI Pro Code: AIPRO_ F79AB3 (everyone at University of Pacific uses the same code)
      • Once logged in, use the navigation at the top of the page to access training opportunities and the resource library

New writing support program launches this month
Need to carve out some dedicated time to start or complete a writing project? Need some support and/or accountability? Pacific is launching a new writing support program, modeled after the "Shut Up and Write!" program, that provides a regular time and place (and snacks!) to encourage focused time for short bursts of writing followed by a short break.

How it works:

  • 25 minutes of writing (starting promptly on the hour or half hour)
  • 5 minutes of break to chat, stretch, get coffee or snacks (yes coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided!)
  • Repeat

Rules:

  • During the writing period there is no talking, no mobile devices, and internet only if you need it for your writing (no email)
  • Remember that you define writing - this can include research, reading, organizing, analyzing, etc.
  • You have to take a break to recharge

This fall please join us at any or all of the times below to write with your colleagues. Come by and see if this works for you, and stay as long as you like. You can drop in for anywhere from 1 to 4 bursts of writing as your time permits. Please try to time your coming and going during the 5 minutes of break. If you come during writing time, please find a space and start to write - wait until break to gather beverage and snacks. Questions? Please contact Berit Gundersen (bgundersen@pacific.edu).
